Assists elderly, blind or disabled people to remain safely in their own homes when they are no longer able to fully care for themselves or handle routine household tasks. The program pays for approved housework and personal care as an alternative to out-of-home placement. An applicant or referent should call and be prepared to answer questions about income, living arrangements, doctor contact information as well as medical diagnosis. One also needs to provide date of birth, social security number, and emergency contact information. Processing may take several months. No cost to SSI recipients. For others who qualify, a monthly share of the cost is the amount of income over the SSI grant. Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog, German. All initial business done by phone, with follow up at client's home.
